4. What can Schools do to Better Prepare Students for the Global Experience?

One of the first things that schools can do to prepare students for the global experience is teach a second language to children in elementary school. They could even teach a third language. I think that we could communicate easier with people in other countries then we would be more understanding of each other and there wouldn't be as many problems. The technology in schools is also lacking. We just now have computers in classrooms but are still having technical difficulties. We need to study digital communication tools without having a specific class for it and instead by using the tools to do things in other classes. We need to be taught how to e-mail people. I know that it sounds silly because e-mail is almost old technology nowadays but ten years ago it was one of the most popular forms of communication. Most likely when you go into the work force people will still use e-mail and you will need to know how to write an e-mail without using texting slang. Eventually I think that almost all communication will be done by instant messaging. Post offices will become almost obsolete. I think that pretty soon almost every household will have a rapid prototyping machine and you will be able to just go online, order what you want, and the product will be "printed" right in your home. It sounds pretty crazy but who thought that you would be able to touch a computer screen to make a command twenty years ago. Technology is changing much faster than the school's curriculum can keep up with and if that doesn't change then the U.S. will be sending letters while the rest of the world is instant messaging. Already India has more technologically advanced graduates and they all speak English.

Wow. I'm assuming you wrote this for another class, but you have a lot of great ideas.

In case RN does not tell you, you need to remove the post about the grant until after it is announced to the media. Or at least remove the words MIT. I had to remove my post, also.

I agree with you about how we should learn more languages. In the past, we didn't need to because most people in this country spoke English and we aren't neighboring any other countries except Mexico. Now a great percentage of U.S. residents are Spanish speaking!
